Mildred Ruth (Van Brunt) Wegner was born in Truman, MN to Gilbert and Anna (Bachelor) Van Brunt on January 29, 1919. Mildred grew up in Truman was a graduate of Truman High School in 1937. After high school, she attended Mankato Commercial College and graduated in 1938. Mildred worked at the Truman Light Co. when she met Herbert Wegner. On Feb 9, 1941, Mildred was united in marriage to Herbert Wegner at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. In 1942 the couple moved to rural Butterfield where they farmed and raised turkeys. Mildred was confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Butterfield, MN in 1942. Mildred and Herbert had 3 children, Dennis, Pat and Pix. Mildred was a loving homemaker and also worked at the Madelia Turkey Plant, Scherr Tumico and Butterfield Produce. Mildred was active in her church and served as Treasurer for St. Matthews Ladies Aid and AAL group; she helped make hundreds of quilts that were given to service men and lap quilts for the elderly. She was also active in the ladies Watonwan County Extension group and had learned the art of net darning and gave classes in it. In her free time, Mildred loved baking, cooking, sewing and crafts. She had a collection of angels, many of which she made and gave to everyone. She was an angel herself, she had the disposition of one. Mildred Wegner passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter. Mildred is survived by her children, Dennis (Sandra) Wegner of New Ulm, Patricia (William) Gray of Butterfield, Priscilla 'Pixie' Wegner of Comfrey; grandchildren, Dean Wegner of Aurora, CO, Michael Wegner of Comfrey, Cristoffer Bertilson (Shawn Belanger) of International Falls; 8 step-grandchildren; great-grandchild, Isabelle Filipa-Wegner of Rosemount; sister-in-law, Marilyn 'Mickey' Wegner of Arlington Heights, IL, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wegner; parents, Gilbert (Anna) Van Brunt; brother, Willard (Sadie) Van Brunt; 7 brothers-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; 6 nieces and 6 nephews Visitation 1 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, December 8, 2016 Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel 906 - 10th Ave. S.
