Mildred Warling

January 11, 1915 — January 4, 2009

Mildred Askeland was born January 11, 1915 in Kirkland, IL, to Christian and Minnie (Thuestad) Askeland. She moved with her family to rural LaSalle in 1918. She attended District 36 school. Mildred was a softball pitcher for the 4-H team, taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the choir. In 1933 she was awarded the title of MissMinnesota 4-H and won a trip to the Chicago World's Fair. She married Edwin Warling December 20, 1935. They farmed by LaSalle for many years retiring in 1983. Mildred was active as a 4-H leader and sold Stanley Home Products for more than 40 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxilary and the LaSalle Lutheran Church. Mildred is survived by her husband Edwin of St. James, sons Jon (Mary) Warling of Othello, WA, James (Margaret) Warling of St. James, daughter JoAnne (Richard) Stacio of Phoenix, AZ, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Sisters Mae Brekken, Gladys Carlson and her husband Wallace, brother Clifford and his wife Elaine of LaSalle; sister-in-law Gladys Askeland of St. James. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Clara and Esther and brother Albert.
