Mildred Olsen

Mildred Olsen, age 96, of St. James died on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, MN. Mildred Leona Olsen was born November 1, 1911 at Tracy, MN, to parents Henry and Karen (Pedersen) Arnoldt. She moved to Janesville in 1914. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1929, she attended Mankato State Teachers College from 1929 until 1931 where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught school at Peterson, Dover, Truman and St. James. Mildred was united in marriage to Albert M. Olsen on July 10, 1941 in Mankato. Mildred owned and operated Midred's Ceramics out of her basement where she taught ceramnic classes weekly with upto 17 students per class for many years. Mildred was a member of First Lutheran Church in St. James where she also served on ladies circles and aides. Mildred was involved in Girl Scouts and helped start the American Cancer Society Chapter in Watonwan County. She was also involved in the American Legion Auxillary, Summit Center, Garden Club, Art Club, Extension Club and Wally Byam Travel Club. She enjoyed camping, travelling, gardening and reading. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her daughter Judy Olsen of New York City, NY.
