Mildred Marsden

Mildred M. Marsden, age 90, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James. Mildred Marie Marsden was born on March 15, 1922 in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Roy William and Mary Bird (Kirlin) Pfeil. She grew up in Worthington and attended District 28 country school graduating from high school in 1940. Mildred attended Junior College and then Mankato Teachers College graduating in 1942. She taught in a rural school in Round Lake, MN and in Welcome for one year. She married Loren "Red" Marsden on October 15, 1948 in Worthington. In 1946 she began teaching first grade in St. James and continued her teaching in LaSalle, Svedahl and Ormsby retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star, elder of church, superintendent of Sunday school, church choir and volunteering at church. Mildred enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing bridge and other cards, games, fishing, camping, traveling to Mesa, AZ for 22 years, dancing and summers at the lake. She is survived by her children, Sandra (David) Rettke of Odin, Shirley (Lee) Dettmer of Princeton, Sharon (David) Augustin of Faribault, Sheila (Richard) Spitzner of St. James, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren with one expected this summer, brothers, Henry (LaVonne) Pfeil of Worthington and Robert (Peggy) Pfeil of Goshen, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Loren, twin sister, Marion (Burton) Christopherson and sister, Jean (Jim) Fellows.
