Mildred Eykyn

June 13, 1912 — September 2, 2006

Mildred Anna Eykyn was born June 13, 1912, in Lewisville, MN, the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Block) Schwanke. She moved with her family to a farm near Sanborn and attended Sanborn Public Schools. Mildred then attended and graduated from Mankato Beauty College. She worked at Haberman's Beauty and Barber Shop in Lamberton for 2 1/2 years before purchasing the business. On February 14, 1942, Mildred was united in marriage to Vincent Eykyn in Lamberton. She opened Mildred's Beauty Shop in their home in 1942, and continued working as owner/operator for over 50 years until 1974. Mildred continued to work part-time and also worked for Kluegel Funeral Home for many years beginning in 1940. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, CCW, and the Beauticians Association. Mildred enjoyed her family and sharing baked goods with friends and neighbors. Mildred Anna Eykyn died Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 94 years. Survivors include husband- Vincent of Lamberton; son- James and Jeanne Eykyn of Minot, ND; daughter- Bette and Ernie Trapp, Jr. of Lamberton; grandchildren- Jay Eykyn and Jerry Wendt of Redwood Falls, Jennifer and Gene Hull of Boise, ID, Marnie and Keith Bastion of Mankato, and Heath and Sanna Wendt of Lamberton; great-grandchildren- Adriane Hull, Nathan Hull, Camden Caffee, Dalton Wendt, Faith Wendt, and Lacy Wendt; brother-in-law- Cliff Vehrs; and sisters-in-law- Elfrieda Eykyn and Sally Eykyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters- Lucille, Agnes, and Inez; and brother- Donald.
