Mildred Viola (Vehling) Ellertson, the daughter of Ernest and Lydia (Dexheimer) Vehling was born on September 14, 1923 in St. James, MN. She started school in St. James and when she was a freshman in high school, moved with her family to Madelia and graduated from the Madelia High School in 1941. On May 26, 1945 she was united in marriage to Arthur Truman Ellertson. They were united in marriage for 67 years until Art's death in 2012. Mildred and Art farmed on his family's century farm. They raised crops and livestock. Mildred and Art were partners in work and in life and raised three children, Elaine, David and Janis together. One of Mildred's greatest joys was opening her home to others. She hosted family dinners, farm crew meals and friends for cards. She always had more than enough food to go around.
