Meryl Victor Burgeson

Meryl "Burgie" Victor Burgeson, age 85, of Madelia, died on December 31, 2023, at Crystal Seasons Assisted Living Center in Lake Crystal.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, Madelia Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madelia on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Madelia. The family prefers memorials be given to Pheasants Forever.

Burgie was born January 18, 1938, to Vernon and Dorothy (Pauley) Burgeson in Madelia. He attended high school in Madelia and graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture.  After college, Burgie moved to California where he met and married Jan Davies. He worked as an accountant and programmer. Burgie helped raise his step children and later, his daughter, Crissy. In the 1990s, Burgie moved back to the family farm in Madelia where he helped farm and fix up classic cars and pickups.

Burgie will be remembered as the life of the party, with his unforgettable belly laugh, and willingness to help others.

Burgie is survived by his daughter, Crissy (Sean) Gugler of San Jose, California; step son, Mike Burt of Washington; step grandson, Don Scow of Ohio; and special friends, Theresa McHugo and Kevin Byro.

Burgie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jan; step daughter, Pam Scow; step son, Donald Scow; and step grandson, David Scow.
