Merton Stimpert

There will be a parish prayer service at 7pm Friday at the funeral home. Bud was born on September 12, 1932 in Sleepy Eye, the son of Arnold Margaret (Ubl) Stimpert. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950. He went to Mankato School of Business and then enlisted in the US Navy. He served on the USS Nerious and was stationed in Yokasuka, Japan where he worked as a Navel Storekeeper and played basketball for the Navy Seahawks. Bud married Lillian Haala on June 16, 1956. They made their home in Sleepy Eye where Bud managed the Orchid Ballroom until 1959. He went into business with his father for Stimpert Enterprise where he worked until the present time. Bud was a member of St. Mary's Church, 4th Degree KC's, Old S.E. Collector's Club, Area Historical Society, Depot Preservation Group, American Legion, VFW, all in Sleepy Eye the MN Builders Assoc. He served on the Parish Council and the City Zoning Bd. Bud was a collector of many things, Sleepy Eye Memorabilia, Military Medals, Stamps, Coins, Baseball Cards, First Day Covers Barbie dolls. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, he was a great St. Mary's sports fan. He liked to work in the yard and in his garden. He also loved Hawaii and Hawaiian music. ALOHA Bud is survived by his wife, Lillian, son, Dean (Pam), daughter, Cindee Schewe, all of Sleepy Eye, grandchildren, Shaun Molly Stimpert, Cristiana Clay Schewe, brother, Gerald (Rosie) of Sleepy Eye and sister, Joan Apitz of New Ulm, sisters-in-law, Frieda Sellner and Elaine Haala of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jean in infancy and Pat Stimpert Stoneberg, in-laws, John (Minnie) Seidl Haala, brothers-in-law, Roman Sellner, Tony Kretsch, Norbert Tauer, Leo Haala, Larry Haala, Harold Apitz Jerome Stoneberg, sisters-in-law, Adeline Tauer, Eleanor Kretsch Rose Haala.
