Merretta 'Jane' Wellner was born August 25, 1917, the daughter of James and Isabella (Nicholson) Snook. She was united in marriage to Jack Wellner on August 22, 1937, at Christ Lutheran Church in Stately Township. Jane finished her degree as an LPN in her late 40s and then worked at the hospital clinic and in a doctor's office for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader and Den Mother for cub scouts. Church was a very important part of her life where she was active in the women's group, bible study classes, and prayer chain. Jane enjoyed baking, cooking, canning her own vegetables, growing her garden, knitting, and making clothes. She will be missed tremendously by all. Jane Wellner died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 93 years. She is survived by children- Douglas Wellner of Elk River, Michael and wife Nancy Wellner of Springfield, and Barbara and husband Mark Hokenson of N. Babylon, NY; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack in 2002; and daughter Jacqueline 'Jackie' Brand.
