Meril Eugene Reed was born on October 2, 1930 in Winnebago, MN the son of Lester Wallace Margaret (Koenig) Reed. He grew up and attended school in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County, MN. Meril entered the US Army in 1948 and was discharged in 1949 at which time he entered the Army Reserves where he served for eleven years. He married Gladys Moeller in 1953. The couple made their home in Darfur where Meril worked for Darfur Implement for 30 years. They moved to Pueblo, CO where Meril owned and operated his own Power Sweeping Business. He retired in 1995 and they moved back to Minnesota where they have lived until the present time. Meril was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Darfur. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to tractor pulls and especially playing with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors include his wife Gladys Reed of Darfur, daughter Cathy Reed of Darfur, sons, Jim (Diane) Reed of Darfur Robert (Denise) Reed of Tacoma, WA, grandchildren, Jim Reed, Amanda Rachow, Michael Sims, Donny Reed Jackie Reed, great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jersi, Zaylen Rachow, R.J., Mathew Julia Reed, brother, Richard (Georgia) Reed of Darfur, and sister, Gloria (Dewey) Stiles of Mapel Grove, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother LeRoy Reed, sister Ethel Hill, and grandson, Randy Lindsey.
