Menno Hulzebos

September 11, 1919 — April 23, 2008

Menno Hulzebos Jr., the son of Menno and Minnie (Lamfers) Hulzebos was born on September 11, 1919, in Cottonwood County, MN. He received his education at a country school and Darfur Public School. Menno served in the United States Army from February 18, 1941 to November 8, 1945. He served as a Platoon Sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. On November 19, 1942, Menno was united in marriage to Henrietta Menken at the Christian Reformed Church near Mountain Lake, MN. They made their home in CA until Menno went overseas, and after his return they made their home near Mountain Lake. In 1947 they moved in to Mountain Lake and have remained in the same home ever since. Menno worked as a carpenter, cabinet maker, at the GTA Feed Mill and for the Mountain Lake Street Department. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, fishing with his grandchildren, vegetable gardening, and woodworking projectsfor his family. Menno was well know in the area for being able to devine for water using an apple branch. Menno was a member of the Christian Reformed Church, where he served as Elder Decon and was a faithful member of the Men's Society, and he was currently a part of the Community Bible Church in Mountain Lake. He was also active in the Mountain Lake American Legion Post #389. Menno died atthe Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the age of 88 years. Menno is survived by his wife, Henrietta Hulzebos of Mountain Lake; 3 children, Allen and wife Phyllis Hulzebos of Sioux Falls, SD, Dennis and wife Reva Hulzebos of Mountain Lake, and Marlene and husband Craig Olson of Sioux Falls; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy and husband Rudy Junker of Mountain Lake; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin great granddaughters, Stella and Abbigail Hulzebos; a brother, John Hulzebos; and 4 sisters,Hattie Peters, Hannah Foth, Elizabeth Courts and Mary Larson.
