Melvin Regier

June 6, 1926 — May 1, 2008

Melvin Jacob Regier, the son of Jacob and Marie (Rempel) Regier was born on June 6, 1926 at the family farm home north of Mountain Lake, MN. He received his education at a country school, Mountain Lake High School and Mountain Lake Bible School. He continued his education with a four year degree from Grace Bible, and another two years at Biola Missionary School of Medicine in Los Angeles, where he earned his LPN degree. Melvin was baptized upon confession of his faith and received as a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church in Mountain Lake (now Cornerstone Bible Church) on August 18, 1940. On April 4, 1958, Melvin was united in marriage to Lydia Heinrichs at the Altona Mennonite Bergthaler Church in Altona, MB. They made their home and farmed together on the Regier family homestead for 50 years. Melvin loved music, and was involved with the Chord Hustlers, Minnesota Valley Chorale, the Round Table Singers, Mountain Lake Choral Society, and his Church Choir and Music Ministry. He enjoyed farming and his cattle and horses, custom combining for others, hunting and fishing. He served on the Farm Bureau and Mountain Lake Christian School boards. He also enjoyed going to town to visit with and have coffee with friends. Melvin died on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Melvin is survived by his wife Lydia Regier of Mountain Lake; 5 children, Cynthia (Alan) Foster of Edmonton, AB, Canada, Cheryl (Steve) Dick of Mountain Lake, Debra (Greg) Mellema of Arlington, NE, Loren (Shannon) Regier of Kingwood, TX, and Barry (Lori-Anne) Regier of Edmonton; 19 grandchildren; a brother, Norman (Nancy) Regier of Lincoln, NE; 4 sisters, Hilda (Art) Schmidt of Enid, OK, Anna Mae (Glen) Epp of Hillsboro, KS, Myrna (Vern) Zielke of Wichita, KS, and Elisabeth (Walter) Heinrichs of Beaverton, OR; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dwight Regier; and a sister, Edna Regier.
