Melvin Mikkelson

Melvin Mikkelson, age 104, of Madelia, MN, died on November 12, 2021, at Living Meadows at Luther in Madelia. Service will be held at the Nora Unitarian Universalist Church, Hanska, MN, on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the funeral. *Masks are required while in the church* The clergy will be Pastor Lisa Doege. Interment will be at the Mt. Pisqua Cemetery in Hanska. Melvin Mikkelson, son of John and Mary (Rudie) Mikkelson, was born August 27, 1917 on the family farm in Watonwan County. He died Friday, November 12, 2021 at Living Meadows in Madelia, he was 104 years old. Melvin grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools. He worked on the family farm prior to his marriage to Nina Frederickson on December 15, 1940 at the Fred Frederickson home in rural Hanksa. They farmed in rural Madelia and Melvin also worked at Tony Downs Foods in Madelia and other various jobs. He had been a resident at Living Meadows since 2009. He was a member of Nora Unitarian Universalist Church. He enjoyed caring for animals, flowers, dancing, music and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Charles (LaDonna) of Madelia, Cheryl (Philip) James of Brainerd, Barbara Schmid of Maple Plain and Terry (Tracey Oren) Mikkelson of Madelia; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nina Mikkelson; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; a son-in-law, and a grandson.
