Melvin W. Dirks was born on July 17, 1932 to Abraham and Adeline Dirks in Waldheim, Saskatchewan, Canada. He grew up in the Waldheim and Delmony area and attended country school and Delmony Bible School. Upon confession of faith, he was baptized at the EMB Church at Delmany in August of 1945. In December 1959 he moved to Omaha, NE where he worked at Union Packing Company. He married Norma Jean Balzer on July 15, 1960 in Mountain Lake, MN. They made their home in Omaha until 1968 when they moved to Mountain Lake. Melvin worked at Toro for over 26 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, watching sports (especially hockey), playing pool and cards with friends and family and traveling. Melvin is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Dirks, Mountain Lake, MN; 2 sons, Randy (Penny) Dirks, Lakewood, CO, Steve (Kelsey) Dirks, Rogers AR; grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Caden, Kylie; sisters, Selma Cornelson, Dorothy (Jerry) Huebert; sister-in-law, Illeana Dirks; brothers-in-law, Russel Porter, Tom Keckler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death y his parents; brothers, Ben (Sadie) Dirks, Ed (Malinda) Dirks; Abe (Helen) Dirks, Art (Verna) Dirks, John (Linda) Dirks, Alvin Dirks; sisters, Helen (Leander) Wiens, Miriam (Melvin) Wiebe, Doreen Porter, Luella Dirks; and sister-in-law, Lola Keckler.
