Maurita Jahnz

Maurita Jahnz, age 101, of Madelia, went to be with her Lord, Thursday September 27, 2012 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, MN. Maurita Jahnz, the daughter of David R. and Emma L. (Johnson) Elkin, was born on November 27, 1910 in Knox County, Missouri. Maurita graduated from Madelia High School in 1928. On May 4, 1930, she was united in marriage to Elmer Jahnz at the Methodist Parsonage in Madelia. They were given the gift of 55 years together. They were blessed with two children, Harley and Nylene. For a short time, Maurita helped her husband run a bakery in Redwood Falls, then they moved back to Madelia. Maurita was a long time employee at the Madelia Community Hospital, she was a nurse aide and then worked in the radiology department. She was also a member of the MCH Auxiliary. Maurita lived a life of deep faith and love for God, she was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She taught many years of Sunday school, was a choir member, deaconess, part of the ladies group and active in the Christian Women's Group. She always welcomed missionaries and guest speakers to her home. Maurita enjoyed reading, gardening, coffee with friends, and handwork. She grew beautiful African Violets. She was also famous for her rosettes she made at Christmas time. Maurita is survived by daughter, Nylene (Richard) Simpson of Madelia; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Eltha (Morton) Schulz of Madelia. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Elmer; son, Harley; sister, Leona Lord and brother, Ben Elkin.
