Matilda Thiessen

Matilda J. Duerksen, the daughter of John H and Marie (Krahn) Duerksen was born November 5, 1926 in Midway Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. She received her education at District 16 South, the Bingham Lake High School, and the Mountain Lake Bible School. Matilda was baptized on May 24, 1942 at the Bergfelder Church in Delft, MN. She did housekeeping for the Pete Ewerts and she worked at Butterfield Produce. On April 5, 1951 Matilda was united in marriage to Albert David Thiessen at the Gospel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN, and they made their home in the Butterfield, MN area. She enjoyed family history and genealogy, reading, gardening, playing games, and playing music. She was active in the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake and served in Mission Society and on the library committee. Matilda died at the age of 82 years, one month and six days, on Thursday morning, December 11, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Matilda is survived by her husband, Albert Thiessen of Butterfield; three sons, Ivan Thiessen and his wife Sherill of Spencer, IA, Darwin Thiessen and his wife Virginia of Darfur, MN, and Lauren Thiessen and his wife Lori of Windom, MN; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Martha Pieske and her husband DeLose of Lake Wilson, MN, Marion Thiessen and her husband Harold of Darfur, Mrytle Quiring and her husband Arnold of Windom, and Myrna Dick of Mountain Lake; a brother, John Duerksen and his wife Tina of Mountain Lake; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Cherie Thiessen; an infant sister, Margaret Duerksen; a brother, Erwin Duerksen; and in-laws, Donald Dick, and Georgine and Milton Tex Duerksen.
