Mathilda Dick

November 19, 1916 — January 15, 2011

Mathilda Tillie Dick, age 94, of Jackson formerly of Butterfield, died on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Jackson Good Samaritan Center in Jackson, MN. Tillie (Harder) Dick was born on November 19, 1916 in Lostwood, ND. In the spring of 1941 she met the love of her life, Pete Dick. On September 7, 1941, they married at the First Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake, MN. Shortly thereafter they were blessed with the birth of their daughter Sharon and a year later a son, Jimmy. Tillie was deeply saddened by the tragic death of her son nine months later. Hand in hand and side by side they farmed near Bingham Lake. Some years later they moved to the Tilney Farms near Lewisville. After the death of Tillie's grandparents in 1949, Pete and Tillie purchased the family farm north of Butterfield. During the winter of 1955 they sold the farm and moved into Butterfield. In 1974, Tillie was struck by tragedy yet again when her beloved Pete died of cancer. She continued to reside in Butterfield until Alzheimer's took its toll. For six years, she lived in a wonderful group home for Alzheimer's patients in Crosby, MN. In August of 2010, she entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jackson, MN. On January 15, 2011, at the age of 94, her life ended peacefully, surrounded by her people. Throughout her long life she enjoyed the great outdoors. Her passions included gardening and manicuring her lawn. Her knowledge of identifying songbirds never escaped her. Her family called on her for her delicious pies, homemade angel food cake and fresh breads. The greatest joy in Tillie's life was her daughter Sharon. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Chris) Kluver of AR, 2 grandchildren Troy (Sue) Kluver of MN, Connie (Darcy) Johnson of SD, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a brother Robert (Judy) Harder of AZ.
