Mary Walters

June 18, 1926 — August 30, 2013

Mary Walters was born in Munich, ND on June 18, 1926 to Walter and Hilda (Hall) Schmitt. She moved to Comfrey as a small child and attended school in Comfrey. On September 14, 1943 she married Donald Walters of Mt. Lake, MN. They farmed in the Comfrey area until 1956. They then moved to Osakis, MN and farmed there for 10 years. In 1966 they moved to Darfur, MN and purchased the local grocery store Country Market. Mary managed the store for 18 years. Mary was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church of Comfrey, MN. She was active in church and town activities. She enjoyed crocheting, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by a son Douglas of Alexandria, MN; son-in-law Joe Gordon of Butterfield, MN; brother Wallace and wife Pauline Schmitt of Tacoma, WA; sister-in-law Irene Schmitt of Sleepy Eye, MN; 4 grandchildren - Dustin Walters, Erin Walters, Jacob Gordon and Joey Gordon, 1 great grandchild Jasmine Marie Gordon. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; daughter Lori Gordon; brother Gerald Schmitt; sister Gladys Haala; and a grandson Joshua Gordon.
