Mary B. Steffl

Mary Barbara Steffl was born on September 17, 1921 in Colbette Luxembourg, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Mangen. Her family came to America when she was 7 years old. Mary's childhood was spent on a farm north of Sleepy Eye. She attended District 22 Country School and St. Mary's Catholic School. She married Louis Steffl on April 19, 1944. They farmed and raised their 4 children south of Sleepy Eye. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, CCW, Catholic Aid Council, Divine Providence Auxiliary and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed her flowers, quilting, sewing, traveling and playing cards. Mary was generous with her time and often went out of her way to help out family, friends and neighbors. She had a passion for cooking and entertaining family at her home. Mary could whip up a meal for twenty in no time at all. Mary's greatest love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Jeanette (Robert) Bruckbauer, Mary Jean (Charles) Bischof, Carole Steffl and Joseph (Cindy) Steffl. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Brian (Stacye) Bruckbauer, Chad (Joua) Sobocinski, Sara (Matt) Converse, Michael (Tanya) Sobocinski, Shana (Joe) Willenbring, Jared (Kate) Bischof, Zachary Bischof, Justin (Beth) Steffl, Nicole (Paul) Fuchs, Adam (Ken) Steffl and Maria Steffl; great grandchildren, Antuan, Andre, Anthony, Hailey, Austin, Andrew, Allison, Brecken, Lauren, Isaac, Lydia, Tommy, Claire and Moira.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Louis, her brothers Victor, Albert, Leo, and Bernard. Mary was a very bright light in the lives of her family. We loved her so much and will miss her immensely.
