Mary was born October 8, 1942, in St. James, MN to Morgan and Ruth (Morse) Nelson. She was the oldest of four children growing up with one brother and two sisters.  She graduated from St. James High School in 1960. She wed Daryle Maloney in St. James, Minnesota on June 17, 1961, raising three children, farming alongside her husband, and blessed with 53 years of marriage until Daryle passed away in 2015.

Mary’s lifelong love of flowers was inspired while working in her parent's greenhouse in Madelia, MN.  After many years of experience growing and arranging flowers, she became a master gardener in Watonwan County and enjoyed judging competitions. She had a talent for all things creative - knitting needles were never far from her hands.  Mary’s strong faith and dedication to the United Methodist Church of St. James was unfailing.  She was also very passionate about, and active with, the United Methodist Women and volunteering as a lay speaker. Her compassion and generous heart leave many wonderful memories for family, friends, and neighbors.

Mary is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.  Eldest son Scott Maloney and his wife Sheila (Milbredt) of Lewisville, MN and grandchildren Casey, Jason, Cleo (Gabe) and Mikala Sieg (Derick), great grandchildren (Alek & Zander Sieg). Son Jeff Maloney and his wife LeAnn (Stough) of Lewisville, MN and grandchildren Jordan (Kasey), and great grandchildren (Taelynn & Gage), Austin, Jackson (Rachel), and Mason Maloney.  Daughter Deb Maloney of Batavia, IL.  Sister Jeannie Lind of Virginia, MN along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Daryle, parents Morgan and Ruth Nelson, brother Martin (Sandy) Nelson of Madelia, MN, sister Joanie (John) Woytasek of TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations or memorials can be made to Good Samaritan Society, St James, MN; or donor’s choice.
