Mary E. Horne

Mary E Horne was born on February 11, 1928 in Bethal, MN the daughter of Bessie and Clifford Smith. She grew up and attended school in Beloit, WI where she graduated from high school. Mary married William Horne on January 22, 1949 in Beloit, WI. Because of Bill's active life in baseball, they moved and settled in Sleepy Eye, MN and raised their family. She was the bookkeeper for Horne Plumbing and Heating and worked as a waitress at the Orchid Inn for many years. After retirement, Bill and Mary enjoyed traveling to Hot Springs, AR or San Antonio, TX. Mary enjoyed playing cards with Bill, baking, spending time with grandkids and cooking for her family. She taught Sunday school, was a den mother for the Boy Scouts and enjoyed golfing in ladies league. Mary was always a care giver, not only for her family but for her father in law and her own mother. You would often see Mary visiting others in the care facility and bringing them homemade goods. Mary went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2016 after a short illness while being hospitalized at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center. Mary is survived by her husband Bill of 67 years, children, Cindy (John) Bollig of Shakopee, Susan (Kim) Piercy of Alta, IA, Bob (Debra) of Fulda, and Bill (Sue) of Hastings, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her sister Betty O'Brien of Dearborn Heights, MI and sister-in-law Pat O'Brien(Schmeling). She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother E. Allen Smith and brother-in-law Louis O'Brien.
