Mary Hintgen

August 12, 1916 — February 16, 2012

Mary Hintgen, age 95, of St. James, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-St. James. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Monday. Memorial services will be 2:00pm, Monday, February 20, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Ken Bowman officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. James. Mary Elizabeth Carlson was born August 12, 1916, in Stanley, North Dakota, to parents John Hazel (Flatt) Carlson. She grew up on the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota where she graduated from Chisholm High School. She then attended beauty school in the Twin Cities and worked as a hairdresser in several communities including St. James. She met and married Lyle Hintgen in 1939 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. Mary worked at Hintgen Drug while she and Lyle raised their family. In the 1960's they opened the Cameo Jewelry store in St. James. In the mid 70's, they moved to the Twin Cities and managed apartment buildings until their retirement in 1986. Later that year Lyle passed away and Mary went back to managing apartment buildings for another 16 years. Following her second retirement, she moved to St. James and lived at Pairieview, then Brandt Ridge and Pleasantview most recently. Mary loved life and people. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their visits she always made sure they received a toy or treat. She also enjoyed knitting baby bonnets and booties, sewing, playing bridge and card games, dominoes and bingo. Mary also had her own pool cue and liked to play pool. She loved decorating for holidays and special events especially halloween. Mary is survived by her daughter; Margaret (Vern) Syverson of Eagan, sister; Olive Welker of Chisholm, daughter-in-law; LaVonne Hintgen of St. James, grandchildren; Dawn Hintgen, Sunny Hintgen, Brian Hintgen, Mark Hintgen, Jody Missling, Amy Kilian, Andy Hintgen, David Hintgen, Scott Syverson, great-grandchildren; Nirvana, Ethan, Aiden, Amanda, Isaac, Ellie, Erin, Derek, Jacob, Maya, Dominic, Ragan, Lucas, Leo, Gabriel and Alice. She is preceded in death by her husband, sons; John and Paul and her parents. Service Information 2:00 pm Monday, February 20, 2012 First Lutheran Church- St. James 719 6th Ave. S.
