Mary Bates

Mary C. Bates was born on January 12, 1916 in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, MN, the daughter of John and Theresa (Weber) Treml. She attended county school and worked for Petrius Foods in Sleepy Eye. She moved and worked in the ammunition factories in the Twin Cities during the war. She was married to Carl Bates on November 7, 1959 in Minneapolis, MN. She worked for IBM and retired from 3M. In 1995 they moved to Springfield. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, traveling, bowling, and visiting with family and friends. Mary died on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN at the age of 96 years. She is survived by her husband - Carl Bates of Springfield; a sister-in-law - Marion Treml of Comfrey and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings - Joe, John, Mike, Henry, Helen, Emma, Ida, Herman, Alvina, and Ben.
