Marvin Wesley Prins was born on April 26, 1933 in Brown County, the son of Tebbo and Jeanette (Finger) Prins. As in infant, Marvin moved with his parents to Amboy Township in Cottonwood County. He graduated from Jeffers High School in 1951. He worked for Hayes - Lukas Lumber in Jeffers until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953, serving at Fort Lewis, Washington. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Grunewald at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown Township on August 28, 1955. The couple moved to Mankato where Marvin attended Mankato State University, graduating in 1958 with a major in Industrial Arts and a minor in Business and History. He taught at Lake Wilson Schools from 1958 until 1965. In 1965, the couple moved to a farm in Amboy Township and farmed until their retirement in 1998. The couple moved to Springfield in 2001. Marvin served as the Amboy Township Clerk for 26 years, Jeffers Elevator Board member for 9 years, former member of the MEA and NEA, a member of the Jeffers American Legion Post #409 since 1955, a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers, United Methodist Church in Lake Wilson, and a current member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting ducks, woodworking, playing cards, coffee and visiting with friends, and time with his family. Marvin died on Friday, December 20, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years - Mary Lou of Springfield; children - Mark (Theresa) Prins of Laurel, MT, Michelle (Brian) Gatz of Granite Falls, MN, Murray (Becky) Prins of Gig Harbor, WA, Marcia (Dan, Jr.) Dolezal of Morgan, MN; 8 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 4 great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters - Clyde Prins of Walnut Grove, MN, Robert (Marjorie) Prins of Storden, MN, Norman (Ruth) Prins of N. Mankato, MN, Bernice (Lawrence Jack) Ryker of Jeffers, MN, Kenneth (Shirley) Prins of Jeffers, MN, Arlene Meyer of Lake Park, IA, Janet Prins of Jeffers, MN, and Richard Prins of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law David Vining of Rapid City, SD.
