Springfield Chapel

Martin "Marty" John Lang, age 45, of Lakeville MN formally of Springfield passed away peacefully Friday, February 6, 2026, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester after a courageous and determined battle with lymphoma, surrounded by family. Though his life was far too short, it was rich with meaning - filled with laughter, kindness, resilience, and deep love for the people who matter most.

Marty faced his illness the same way he lived his life: with strength, grace and quiet courage. Even in the most difficult moments, he remained hopeful and selfless, always more concerned about those he loved than about himself. His bravery and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone who walked beside him on this journey.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Marty’s life will be Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11:30am at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield with visitation beginning one hour prior. Evening visitation will be from 4-7 pm at Sturm Funeral home in Springfield on Thursday, February 12, 2026, with a prayer service at 3:45pm. Burial will be at St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Marty was born August 13, 1980, to Joseph Jr and Diane (Roiger) Lang. He attended St. Raphael's Catholic school and graduated from Springfield High School in 1999. Marty earned his Eagle Scout achievement award. Marty continued his education at South Dakota State, Brookings graduating in 2004. Following his education he was employed by Richie Brothers, Bank of the West and BMO.

Above all, Marty’s greatest joy was his family. He was united in marriage to Vanessa Lansing, the love of his life and his constant source of strength on December 10, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Queen Creek, AZ. He was a proud and deeply devoted father to his daughter, Eleanor Anne, who was truly his world - his greatest job, his purpose, and the light of his life. Marty also treasured their beloved dog, DC, and affectionately referred to Vanessa, Ellie, and DC as his girls. In addition to his family, his raised gardens and specifically his harvest of tomatoes were his pride and joy. Saturday mornings were daddy and daughter donut day.

Marty enjoyed going to the cabin, hunting trips out west with his brother, uncles and cousins, and fishing in Canada, Idaho and Louisiana. He was known for his warm heart, his sense of humor, and ability to make people feel comfortable and valued. He found joy in the simple things and had a gift for turning everyday moments into lasting memories.

In addition to his girls, he is survived by his mother, Diane; siblings - Mike, Laurie (John) Reyant, Lisa (Paul) Welsh, Marc (Deb), Matt (Lisa); many nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins and special friend Jesse; in-laws David, Chris and Jordan. Marty was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lang Jr, infant sister, cousins - Jason Roiger and Erin Roiger, and his grandparents.

While our hearts ache in his absence, we take comfort in our faith and the promise that this is not goodbye but until we meet again. We trust that Marty is now at peace - healed, whole and resting in God's loving embrace. His legacy of love, courage, and faith will live on through Vanessa, Ellie, and all who carry his memory forward.
