Marlys (Rue) Teigum was born December 22, 1924 to Velma (Allen) and Ole T.Rue. She died May 5, 2020 at Birchwood Cottages in North Mankato. She was 95 years old. Marlys attended grade school in North Mankato, and graduated from Lake Crystal High school in 1942. After graduation from Mankato Commercial College, she worked for Prudential Insurance in Mankato. Marlys met Albert T.Teigum at a dance. They were married February 11, 1950 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato. Marlys and Albert lived and farmed near Madelia for 68 years except for two years in Arkansas while Albert was enlisted in the Army. Marlys was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and all needle crafts. Her family was the lucky recipients of many quilts, afghans, sweaters, and many people received homemade baby gifts. Above all she enjoyed time with her family, and becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother were two of her greatest joys. Marlys came from a musical family, and also enjoyed playing the piano. She and Albert were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia, where she was active in the WELCA , serving at many funerals, and constructing many quilt tops which were later used in mission activities. After her husband's death in 2018, Marlys moved to Birchwood Cottages in North Mankato. Survivors include her daughters Barbara Snyder,of Andover, New Jersey and Carolyn (Tom) Schultz, of Madelia; grandsons Grant and Jamie Schultz, and great-grandchildren Kyleigh and Jase Schultz. Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers Reno and Lloyd, one son-in-law George Snyder, two brothers-in-law David and Christian Teigum, one sister-in-law Marian (David) Teigum and one nephew Timothy Teigum.
