Marlys Ann Haala

Marlys Ann (Mathiowetz) Haala was born on April 25, 1937 in Sleepy Eye to Clarence and Loretta (Reiner) Mathiowetz. She grew up in Eden Township and attended St. Mary's school in Sleepy Eye. She married Luverne A. Haala on June 10, 1957 at St Mary's Church in Sleepy Eye. They made their home and farmed on Luverne's farm until 1990. She moved to the Sleepy Eye Country Side Apartments in 2006 and recently the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Marlys was an active member of St Mary's Church and activities within the Sleepy Eye Country Side community. She enjoyed crafts such as quilting, cross stitch, crocheting and sewing. Much of her work has been donated to Divine Providence. She also loved to follow her four grandchildren on their journeys. A special thank you to the New Ulm Medical Center Staff, Country Side Retirement Community, Sleepy Eye Care Center, Allina Hospice and family and friends who guided her through her 10 year battle with cancer. She is survived by son Ron (Jolene) of Inver Grove Heights; four grandchildren, Jessi (Kyle) Larson of Eden Prairie, Cory Haala, Danielle Haala, Ryan Haala; Brothers, Richard (Agnes) Mathiowetz of Fairfax, Lowell Mathiowetz of New Ulm, Pat (Jane) Mathiowetz of Bakersfield, CA, Duane (Carol) Mathiowetz of Mill Valley CA and sister in-laws Diana Ubel of New Ulm and Judy Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Luverne, parents Clarence and Loretta, and brothers Ronald and Gerald Mathiowetz.
