Marlys Evelyn Bertilson

Marlys Evelyn Bertilson age 91, of Madelia, Minnesota died on February 22, 2016, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Marlys Evelyn (Neuenschwander) Bertilson was born on January 31, 1925 to Albert and Mabel Neuenschwander, the oldest of seven children. Marlys grew up in the Welcome and Madelia areas, and attended country school in rural Madelia. She married Alvin Bertilson at United Methodist Church in Madelia on June 27, 1945. The couple farmed near Ormsby until they moved to Madelia in 1955 and made Madelia their home for more than 60 years. Marlys worked at Tony Downs Foods for 35 years before her retirement. She enjoyed volunteering at Luther Memorial Home, the Ladies Auxiliary of Madelia, and regularly donated blood to the Red Cross. Marlys also enjoyed hobbies, including, baking cookies, and gardening flower and vegetable gardens. Marlys is survived by her husband, Alvin Bertilson; children, Jerry (Dori) Bertilson of La Crescent, Merlin (Deb) Bertilson of Elk River, Kurt (Renee) Bertilson of Madelia; brother, Merle Neuenschwander; sister, Ardella Hall; 3 grandchildren, Tosha Grossmann, Amanda Pommerening, Zechariah Bertilson, and 5 great-granddaughters, Hayley, Chloe, Sydney, Violet and Madelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Lloyd Neuenschwander, infant triplets, Lawrence, Laurice and Lorraine.
