Marlyn J. Johnson was born October 8, 1926 to Joseph and Hattie (Warner) Johnson in Adrian Township, Watonwan County. She attended rural school at District 61 and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1944. She was employed at the Darfur State Bank from 1944 to 1948. Marlyn married Henry (Bill) Engdahl on October 22, 1948 in Darfur, MN. Together they farmed the land and ran their dairy and chicken operation. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Darfur all of her life where she served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She also taught Bible school and served different offices of the women's church organizations. She sang in the ladies' trio and church choir. Marlyn enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, home decorating and being with her family. Marlyn is survived by her husband, Henry; one son, Gordon and his wife Lynn of Midland, MI; one daughter, Diane Nelson and her husband, Hal of Mankato, MN; one granddaughter, Lexy Nelson; sisters, Harriet Swanson, and Ione Elg and her husband Ivan; brother, Floyd Johnson; and sister-in-law, Erma Johnson. She is also survived by one step-granddaughter, two step-grandsons, 3 step great-granddaughters, one step great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Marlyn was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Velma Vallin and Ruth Linscheid, and two brothers, Arne and Glen Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Women for Missions.
