Marlowe Essig

Marlowe M. Essig was born February 13, 1920 in Cottonwood County, the son of William and Lillian (Gumpto) Essig. He farmed with his parents until 1948. He worked with the dray line and the elevator until 1949. On September 18, 1949 Marlowe married Cheryl Yackel in Lamberton. In 1952 he purchased the Homer Paquin Tire Shop and the Standard Station in 1968. After 50 years in business, Marlowe officially retired in January of 2002 at the age of 82. Marlowe served on the Lamberton Ambulance crew for 16 years, a former Library Board member, a Lamberton Commercial Club member, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lamberton where he served as Auditor, Finance Secretary, Trustee, and Head Usher. Marlowe died on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Valley View Manor Care Center in Lamberton at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife - Cheryl Essig of Lamberton; children - John Essig of San Francisco, CA, Sue Ann and husband Jeff Stoutland and Jo Ann and husband Paul Creighton both of Henderson, MN; grandchildren - Justin and wife Christina Essig of Glenwood, Joshua Essig of Glenwood, Kelly Essig of Fargo, ND, Jacob Creighton of Belle Plain, Ryan Creighton, Joseph Stoutland, and Daniel Stoutland all of Henderson; a sister - Delaine Reynolds; in-laws - Lavone Engeswick, Eva and Ruben Dallman, Ruth Merringer, and Annette and Loren Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son - William; an infant brother - Wilmer; parents-in-law - Jack and Maude Yackel; and in-laws - Bob Reynolds, Fernie Bloedow, Ray Merringer, and Russ Engeswick.
