Marland Braaten died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. Marland Sveinung Braaten was born in rural Butterfield, MN, on March 31, 1929 to parents Sveinung Sam and Mabel (Iverson) Braaten. He completed the eighth grade at Butterfield Public School and later earned his GED while in the Army. Marland served from 1947 until 1950 and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. On June 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Falk at the First Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake. Marland worked on several farms, drove truck for Tony Downs Foods and worked maintenance at Butterfield Foods before his reirement in December 2001. Marland was born again in Jesus at the Assembly of God Church in St. James in September 1952. He loved his Savior, his wife, his children and grandchildren. He loved flying, fishing, camping and old time gospel music. Marland was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy, parents, brother Olaf, sisters Aasle Lindemann, Aaste Braaten and a sister-in-law Evelyn. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Braaten of St. James, daughter Louise (David) Johnson of Butterfield, brother Aasten (Agnes) Braaten of Butterfield, sisters Anna Ringen of Butterfield, Mabel (Burton) Olson of Mt. Lake, grandchildren Peggy (Joe) Engelkes of Chester, SD and Kathy Johnson of Butterfield.
