Mark Joseph Hammerschmidt was born on November 18, 1954 in Redwood Falls, MN, the son of Paul Sylvia (Bellig) Hammerschmidt. He grew up and lived on a farm in rural Wabasso until he was 8 years old when he moved with his family to Sleepy Eye. Mark attended St. Mary's School and graduated in 1973. He was active in Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout Badge. Mark married Cheri Zagurski on November 7, 1981 in Omaha, NE. He worked for Hansen Distributing of Sleepy Eye from 1973-1986 and then Tow Distributing of Mankato from 1986-2013. Most recently Mark worked for Mathiowetz Construction. He was a member of St. John's Church, Pheasants Forever and the Eagles. He loved all outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. Mark is survived by his wife, Cheri of Sleepy Eye, children, Zach (Jessi) Hammerschmidt daughter, Isabella of Madelia, Danielle (Jacob) Firle of Seattle, WA, Courtney son, Kaiden of Sleepy Eye, Shelby of Sleepy Eye, brothers sisters, Gary (Shirley) Hammerschmidt of Morgan, Lyle (Pat) Hammerschmidt of Alexandria, Glen (Marilyn) Hammerschmidt of Garfield, David (Nancy) Hammerschmidt of Spicer, Cheryl Zuhlsdorf of Alexandria, Monica (James) Wurtzberger of New Ulm, mother-in-law, Jacque Zagurski of Omaha, NE, aunts uncles, Ursula Broich of Sleepy Eye, Robert Bellig of Redwood Falls and Betty Schmidt of Redwood Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bob Zagurski.
