Mark Allen Evers was born April 30, 1974 as the firstborn child of Darald and Mary (Jacobson) Evers. He was born in Comfrey, MN and was one of the first in the area to take a fixed wing air ambulance to the NICU at the University of Minnesota, where he was the biggest baby on the floor. He recovered and came home to live with his family.
Mark grew up on the family farm outside of Darfur and was later joined by his sisters Michelle and Mindy. He attended Comfrey Public School and graduated in 1992. From there he attended South Dakota State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy with a minor in Animal Science, and continued for another semester working on a Masters in Soybean Breeding. He met his wife Jennifer (McCuen) in December of 1997, and returned in the winters to Brookings to work at AgriPro Seeds bagging beans and running the dryer at night until she graduated.
Mark was a farmer. He talked of all of his trips to Cargill (now Farmward) in Comfrey with the tractor, wagon and loads of grain in the summer. At one point he was the youngest farmer in Cottonwood County, renting land from the oldest. He continued to farm until the last. He was so proud to raise corn and soybeans. He added sugarbeets to the rotation in 2000 and complained during his wedding to Jennifer on November 17, 2001 that it was too hot, and his beets were going to rot in the pile. They returned home from their honeymoon a week later in a snowstorm. Throughout the years he also raised sweet corn and peas, and a whole lot of rye (that he never intended to, nor did he harvest). In 2002 he built his first two wean-to-finish hog barns and another doublewide in 2021 feeding pigs until January of 2025.
In February 2007 his next love was born in Zoe Olivia Evers. Zoe was born between the snowstorms which he always liked to remember. Cooper Henry Evers was born in October 2009, and Mark’s family became complete. Since harvest was delayed that year, Mark was harvesting sugarbeets and drove 117 mph to New Ulm to make it for the last half hour of Cooper’s arrival. He was so proud of them always and loved all of their accomplishments. As a family he loved poking fun at us, telling dad jokes and making up silly stories. We will miss his voice and his laugh.
Family was very important to Mark and he enjoyed attending all the things. He will be forever loved by his wife Jennifer; daughter Zoe and son Cooper; his parents Darald and Mary Evers; sisters and their spouses, Michelle (Matt) Missling, Mindy (Paul) Ward; father and mother-in-law Wayne & Leanne McCuen; sisters and brothers-in-law Wendy (Brad) Baumgartner, Bryan (Holly) McCuen. He was also proud of his nieces and nephews - Allyson, Trey, Adrianne and Tyce; Maren, Graham and Britt; Daryan, Theodore and Jillyan; Bryly, Dayna and Katyn and Kayson; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Melinda, grandparents Grandma E (Ruth) & Grandpa (Henry) Evers, Grandma J (Esther) & Grandpa Pete (Rudolph) Jacobson, brother-in-law Steve Ossefoort, and infant niece Addyson Ossefoort.
