Mark was born on March 1, 1956, at the Tracy Hospital to Ken and Esther (Henning) Benedict of Lamberton. He was the 5th of 9 children raised on the family dairy farm. Mark was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lamberton. He attended Lamberton Public School, graduating in 1974. Mark immediately took over the dairy business and farming after graduation.
In 1985, he met Jan Torkelson of Lamberton and the two were married in August of 1986. Together they raised 3 children - Jennifer, Ryan and Thomas. Mark and Jan bought the Benedict Farm in 1992 and were the 4th generation to farm the land. He enjoyed sports such as golf, softball, bowling, pool leagues as well as watching the Vikings and Twins. Mark looked forward to deer hunting trips with friends in Tofte, MN. When the boys had come of age, they were able to join him on those trips.
One of Mark's favorite things he enjoyed was talking to his sons about how farming was going. Mark took great pride in growing the farm into what it has become. He felt so fortunate and was pleased to have his sons take over the farm. He loved visits from his grandchildren - Maddi and Brooks.
Mark was known to have such a selfless spirit. He would give to others without needing anything in return and was always ready to lend a helping hand or donate to his church and community.
Left to cherish his memory - wife, Jan; children - Jennifer (Dave) Benedict, Ryan (Liz) Benedict, Thomas Benedict; grandchildren Madeline and Brooks; siblings - Judy (Gary) Johnson of Winnebago, Leon (Jan) Benedict of Lamberton, Kay (Darv) Voge of Springfield, and Jon Benedict of Fairbanks, Alaska; aunt Kathy Henning; uncle Jim Myers and many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, brothers - Tom, Mike and Jeff Benedict, sister Jan Voge and many aunts and uncles.
