Marjorie Mattison

Marjorie "Margie" Joy (Nerem) Mattison was born on November 2, 1940. at her parents' home in rural Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, Lamberton, MN, to the late Kermit Arnold and Hannah Rose (Nessen) Nerem. She was baptized and confirmed at the Highwater Lutheran Church where she remained a lifelong member. She attended country school, Storden High School and graduated from Jeffers High School in 1958. On February 1, 1959, Margie was united in marriage to Dennis Leo Mattison at Highwater Lutheran Church. Dennis and Margie farmed in Highwater Township where they raised their family of one daughter and one son. They were blessed with 62 wonderful years of marriage. Margie was a faithful member of Highwater Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was also involved in Circle and Ladies Aid. She loved being with her family and enjoyed going to all the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers and spent many hours tending to them. She was an excellent seamstress from a young age, sometimes creating her own patterns. She sewed clothing for her family when they were young and also many, many doll clothes for her daughter, granddaughters and great granddaughters. Margie played the piano, quilted, crocheted, did hardanger, tatted, cross-stitched, and canned vegetables from their large garden. She loved hosting family pool parties and going on rides in the golf cart. She loved to create scrapbooks containing photos of her family. On July 29, 2021, Margie was admitted to the Mankato Mayo Hospital where she had surgery. Following surgery her health declined and she peacefully passed away there on Friday morning, July 30, 2021, with her family at her bedside, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 29 days. Her devoted family includes her husband Dennis of Lamberton; her daughter Denise (Al) Clarke of Lamberton, MN and son Michael (Donna) Mattison of Winthrop, MN; sister Kathy (Lee Mitchell) Bergmann of Blaine, MN; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Alex) Pankonin of Sanborn, MN, and Chelsea (Jason) Stripling of Waconia, MN; four great grandchildren, Victoria Pankonin, Carson Pankonin, Vienna Stripling, and Leone Stripling; 5 step grandchildren, Nikki, Greg, Andria, Brandon, and Zac; 15 step great grandchildren; and many, many other relatives and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws Minnerd and Leona Mattison. Blessed be the memory of Marjorie Joy Mattison.
