Marilyn Therese Windschitl was born the daughter of William and Angeline (Schroepfer) Sturm on November 11, 1934, in Springfield, MN. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1952 and then attended nursing school in Mankato for 1 year. On September 20, 1950, Marilyn met her future husband, Edwin Windschitl, at George's Ballroom in New Ulm. The couple was engaged prior to him leaving for his years in the service. Marilyn and Edwin were married on June 6, 1956, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. She worked for many years at the Sleepy Eye Hospital as an LPN and also cared for the elderly in their homes. In 1960, the family moved to a farm in Mulligan Township, near Leavenworth. Marilyn continued her nursing career at the Springfield Hospital until becoming a full-time homemaker. Later, she worked at V&S Variety, Victorian Gardens and Tis a Gift all in Springfield. Marilyn and Edwin moved to Springfield in 2001. She was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs and was involved with the Christian Mothers and CCW and served as a sacristan for 29 years. Marilyn enjoyed embroidering, word finds, puzzles, reading, gardening, baking, and traveling. She loved all kinds of birds, and had many collectibles including Terry Redlin prints, angels, and many other items. Marilyn enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's activities. Marilyn died on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, of natural causes at her home in Springfield, at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband Edwin of Springfield; children - Lori (Craig) Bielen of Springfield, Dean Windschitl of Brooklyn Park, Jacalyn (Douglas) Helget of New Ulm, and Kelli (David) Jensen of Comfrey; grandchildren - Crystal (Dustin) Cole, Matthew (Jessica) Bielen, Zachary and Nicholas Windschitl, Derek, Collin, and Jenna Helget, and Megan, Allison, and Cindy Jensen; and great grandchildren - Ryan and Evan Bielen. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents William "Mike" and Angeline Sturm, sister Judy Arnoldi, brother Michael Sturm, grandson Jake Windschitl, parents-in-law Ferdinand and Clara Windschitl and Edwin's family members.
