Marie was born October 17, 1917 in Alton, Iowa, the eighth of nine children of Paul and Margaret (Arens) Neyers. In 1921, the family moved to a farm site in the Evan area. Marie graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye in 1936 and attended one year of Normal Teacher's Training in Mankato. For four years she taught at a country school south of Sleepy Eye. In July 1941, she moved to Ingelwood, CA where she married Ivan Paulson on August 30, 1941. They returned to Minnesota in 1942 and farmed in the Evan area until 1964. Marie returned to teaching at a country school in 1959 for four years and then taught at St. Mary's Grade School in Sleepy Eye for 21 years and retired in 1984. Ivan died in 1973 and Marie moved to a home in Sleepy Eye where she resided until April 2011, when she made her new home at Divine Providence Community Home. Marie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them grow up and helping them with homework and to just be there for them. She always had a full jar of MandM's for the great-grandchildren when they came for a visit. Her past-times included daily crossword puzzles, gardening, canning, and embroidery. She was a woman with a strong faith and was an active member in St. Mary's Catholic Church. She spent many years as a Church Lector, Commentator and Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, CCW and Divine Providence Famous Quilters. Her passion in life was to teach not only academics but also taught us many important life-lessons. She loved to reminisce about her teaching days and remembered many of her students by name and with a story. She was a very special woman and will be greatly missed but never forgotten by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Gary) Goblirsch of Redwood Falls; sons, Fr. Jerome Paulson of Spicer and Robert (Judy) Paulson of Sleepy Eye; daughter, Colleen (Ron) Van Slooten of Willmar; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ivan, all her sisters and brothers, great grandson, Cody Joseph Paulson and granddaughter, Christi Lee Kodet.
