Marie Louise (Suess) Evers, one of 12 children of Alfred and Louisa Suess, was born on November 30, 1933, in the Leavenworth-Comfrey area. Marie met the love of her life, Walter Evers, and on May 10, 1955, they were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey. Marie and Walter were blessed with six children and raised them on a farm near Comfrey until 1965 when Walter purchased the Skelly Station and they moved to their home in Comfrey where they lived for 55 years.
Marie was first and foremost, a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished these roles, and they were by far the most important in her life. During the 65 years they shared together, Marie and Walter enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, traveling, and most of all, spending time with their family and friends.
Over the years, Marie babysat for several families in her home, including her own grandchildren. She was a great cook and baker, and no one left hungry when visiting. She enjoyed embroidery, reading, and canning in addition to playing cards and dominoes with friends. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey and was actively involved with CCW.
Marie is survived by her children, Mike Evers (Chris Amsden) of Comfrey, Bev McCabe of Madelia, Linda (Joe) Schiller of Comfrey, Allen (Joan) Evers of Mountain Lake, Brad Evers (Amy Stedman) of Sanborn, and Lori (Greg) Krantz of Annandale, MN; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cecelia Zwaschka and Marge Prokosch; sisters-in-law, Verna Suess and MaryAnn Schumacher-Dennis; and other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Evers; parents, Alfred and Louisa Suess; siblings, Leona Suess, Hildegard Lewinski, Delores Zwaschka, Rosella Windschitl, Adeline Svoboda, Alfred Suess, Norbert Suess, Donald Suess, and Jim Suess; and son-in-law, Howard McCabe.
