Marie Cook

Marie Clara Cook was born on March 31, 1922 to Bert and Theresa (Remiger) Mathiowetz in Mulligan Township. On March 31, 1948, Marie was united in marriage to Wilfred "Dutch" Cook at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. The couple lived and farmed on the family farm until retiring and moving to Sleepy Eye in October of 1977. She worked seasonally at Del Monte, worked for Montgomery Wards, and taught Physical Education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Sleepy Eye. Marie was also an insurance representative for 10 years. She enjoyed sports, cards, spending time with her family and friends. Marie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, CCW, Christian Mother's, Red Hat Society, a former St. Mary's Catholic School Board member, and was a founding member of the Mulligan Minutemen 4-H club. Marie Cook died on Friday, January 06, 2012 at the age of 89. Marie is survived by her sons - Wayne and wife Margaret Cook of Redwood Falls, Warren Cook of Sleepy Eye, Stephen Cook of Sleepy Eye; daughters - Jeanne Burns of Denver, CO, Jacque and husband Wayne Novotny of Sleepy Eye; daughter-in-law -Jane Cook of Sleepy Eye; 11 grandchildren; sister-in-laws - Mary Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye, Lucille Mathiowetz of Springfield, Phyllis Mathiowetz of St. Cloud and Winnifred Mathiowetz of Comfrey. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband - Wilfred "Dutch" Cook in 1994; son - Jeff in 2006; grandson - Chris Mathiowetz in 2010; brothers - Raymond, Ambrose, Wendelin, Tony, Art, Alfred, Joseph, Leo, Leonard, Ethelbert, Leonhart and Herribert in infancy; sister - Theresa Nachreiner.
