Margaretha Joyce (Wagner) Winkel passed away on April 18, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.
A private family ceremony was held. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
"Muggs" was born June 6, 1933, on the family farm at Heron Lake, Minnesota. Working hard and helping others is what characterized her entire life. She took pride in being a Registered Nurse, graduating from and working at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She worked at the Heron Lake Hospital until it closed and then at the Windom Hospital. Later in life, she lived in Springfield and volunteered at St. Raphael Catholic Church, St. John Lutheran Home and various other organizations. She tended to the kitchen at the Fredin Brothers Office in Springfield and always had a joke to share.
Muggs is survived by her daughters, Peg (Ed) Voigt, Linda (Curt) Fredin and Pat (Glenn) Lund; grandchildren, Drew (Petra) Voigt, Alex (Signe) Voigt, TJ (Emily) Voigt, Matt (Brittany) Fredin, Maggie (Adam) Meyer, Mitch Fredin, Mason Fredin, Jeremy Lund, Cassie (Marty) Ray, and Brady Lund; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Doherty.
Muggs' grandchildren were her joy. Treasured memories were made as she babysat them, carted them to-and-fro and kept them organized. In adulthood, she offered good practical advice and always reminded them that they were in her prayers.
Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. Mom, we will always hold you in our hearts.
