Margaret June Green, age 99, of rural Butterfield, died on August 3, 2024, at Mayo Health System in Saint James.
Funeral service will be held at the Mountain Lake Alliance Church on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Mountain Lake City Cemetery in Mountain Lake. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Margaret was born July 7, 1925, to Robert and Eleanor (Hansen) Wille in Algona, Iowa. At the age of nine months, her family moved to Butterfield. She attended district 30 country school and then in 9th grade, attended and graduated from Butterfield High School. At the age of 17, Margaret accepted the Lord and attended North Butterfield Mennonite Church. Margaret continued her education at Grace College in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked for the American Sunday School Union after graduating.
On August 24, 1951, Margaret married Wayne Green at the Alliance Church in Mountain Lake. Together, they raised four children. For over 30 years, she assisted Wayne on their dairy farm until retiring in 1994.
In her free time, she had a passion for sewing, alterations on clothing, quilting hundreds of quilts over the years, gardening and drawing. Above all, faith was most important to Margaret. She was active with her church and taught vacation bible school and Sunday school until the age of 80. She was also involved with Watonwan County Christian Women for many years.
Margaret is survived by her children, Larry (Cindy) Green of Butterfield, Ron (Terri) Green of Las Vegas, Nevada, Randy (Sharon) Green of Little Canada, Minnesota, and Merlin (Robin) Green of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Scott (Brittany) Green, Stephanie (fiancé, Andy Mechelke) Green, Kayley Green and Jaime Green; siblings, Allen Wille, Gilbert Wille, and Shirley Riihl; and sisters-in-law, Zuline Wille and Darlene Green.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; brothers, Harold and Franklin; and brother-in-law, Chuck Riihl.
