Margaret Gluth

March 1, 1909 — January 4, 2010

Margaret Mary Haeny Gluth was born on March 1, 1909 in Morgan, MN to Gustav and Anna Seifert Haeny. She attended Parochial and Public School and graduated from Morgan High School in 1926. After high school, she attended Mankato State College and taught one term in Courtland, MN. Margaret married Walter L. Gluth on August 22, 1929 and lived in Morgan most of her life, living 73 years in the house they made home. In June 2002, she moved to Cottonwood Ridge Apartments in Springfield. In May 2006, she fell and was taken to the Springfield Medical Center, and then had a heart attack, and was then transferred to St. John Lutheran Home, where she lived until the time of her death. Margaret and Walter worked together in several business ventures; the Morgan Pool Hall and Fairfax Drive In. She was also employed at the Morgan Drug Store and Gilmore Manor Nursing Home in Morgan. Margaret enjoyed visiting with her friends, playing cards, knitting and crocheting; and was a great artist. She painted many pictures and the one she liked the most was her painting of Jesus. Margaret also made a portrait of her husband, Walter, and her granddaughter, Lisa. Margaret has relatives in Switzerland, and in July of 1982, Margaret had the chance to go to Switzerland to visit her cousins she had never met. John, Mavis, and their daughter, Lisa accompanied her. Margaret's cousins have passed away, but she has a cousin, once removed, still living in Switzerland, Jacob Dieteker, his wife Brigette and children Christopher and Annalies, and two grandchildren. Margaret was a lifetime member of Royal Neighbors Lodge, a member of Gilmore Manor Auxiliary and Morgan Senior Citizens. Margaret had one son, John Russell Gluth and his wife, Mavis; three grandchildren; Greg (Brenda) Gluth of Sleepy Eye, Jeff (Pat) Gluth of Springfield, and Lisa (Larry) Pelzel of Sleepy Eye; great grandchildren; Travis (Kim) Gluth of Springfield, Lance and Brady Gluth of Sleepy Eye, S/Sgt Tabor (Ashley) Gluth of Puyallup, WA, Michael Gluth of Springfield, Leslie Pelzel and special friend, Shaun Rodeberg of Montevideo, and Taylor Pelzel of Sleepy Eye; two great great grandsons, Parker and Hayden Gluth. Margaret loved her family dearly and enjoyed visiting with them. Pie was her favorite dessert; she always said they called her a pie face. Whenever you visited her, she always had some kind of pie, and you couldn't leave until you had a piece. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1971; her parents; brothers, George, Clement, and Elmer Haeny; and sisters, Elaine Haeny Unzeitig and Lorraine who died in infancy; a great grandson, Samuel Pelzel who was stillborn and a great granddaughter, Kristin Ann Gluth.
