Margaret Ann Fischer

March 27, 1942 — January 11, 2022

Margaret Ann "Mickey" Fischer, 79, of Sleepy Eye would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, an offer she couldn't refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with great benefits and a reunion with her beloved family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, quilting, gardening and watching Jeopardy to her heart's content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce. She was born on March 27, 1942, in Mulligan Township, Minnesota to Edmund and Martha (Schroepfer) Windschitl. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great children, all above average, just ask her. She worked as a grocery cashier, milked cows and farmed for over 30 years, waited tables at the Orchid and worked at Advertising Unlimited for 25 years where she was well liked and known to always make great fun with her coworkers. She finally retired in 2008. At Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, she belonged to CCW, Christian Mothers, was an often used back up prayer warrior for Perpetual Adoration, planted and maintained the Holy Family planter in front of church for about 15 years and was on the small team that replenishes the weekly votive candles. She loved to play cards, to watch the Twins, gardening, attending her grandchildren's sporting events and concerts, to be everyone's grandma on the block (no relation required), hosting Saturday morning coffee for her sisters and friends and quilting. If she had time between quilts, she would quilt some more. She was a fantastic cook. She made more pickles than can be counted, smear kuchen, sauerkraut and dumplings and about a million chocolate chip cookies often bringing them to games for the entire baseball or football team. Never one to hold back, she was known to tell it like it is and usually she told it funny with no filter. You never questioned what she thought. Everyone in the county knew her, if you didn't, you missed out. Those missing her include her children Steve Fischer (Elaine) of Sleepy Eye, Lisa Fischer (Kurt Weeding) of Eden Prairie, Martha Witte (Chad) of Eagle Lake, Anna Geiger (Mark Bregel) of New Ulm and Andrew Fischer (Brianna Weller) of Madison Lake. Grandchildren Keith (Jaime) and Craig (Elizabeth) Fischer; Joseph, Savanna, Ellen and Addison Witte; Jacob and Tony Geiger; Julia and Ashley Fischer and Patton Weller. Great Grandchildren Bryce, Logan, and Gavin Fischer and Harvey Fischer. Sisters Elaine (Windschitl) Haala and Sally (Windschitl) Holm. She is reunited with her parents; her brothers Edwin and Lenus Windschitl; her sisters Irene (Windschitl) Sprenger and Della (Windschitl) Schueneman, and her niece Mary Beth Haala. There will be a Parish Prayer Service at 4pm Monday at the funeral home and all are invited to pray the rosary with the family as the visitation concludes. Service can be watched at The family of Mickey Fischer greatly and sincerely thanks you for your kindness and sympathy at a time when it is deeply appreciated.
