She grew up on the family farm near Danvers, MN and attended country school and the Church of the Visitation in Danvers. Being the third oldest of ten children, she helped her father with fieldwork and chores, and helped her mother with housework and the care of younger siblings. When Dr. Kolset of Benson moved his practice to Sanborn, MN in 1924, Margaret moved to Sanborn and worked as his assistant until 1931. On February 7, 1931 she was united in marriage to Clarence A. In 1958, Clarence and Margaret retired to Sauk Centre, MN and bought a resort. In 1960, they returned to Lamberton. Clarence passed away on January 2, 1976. Margaret continued to live in Lamberton until her death on August 18, 2012, except for a few years she spent in Ivanhoe, MN in order to be near her daughter. Margaret was a member of Highwater Lutheran Church, where she participated in women's groups, Bible study, quilting, and the Kitchen Band.
