Margaret Engelking

Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Margaret Lucille Engelking, age 94, of St. James died on Friday, November 12, 2010, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Margaret Lucille Gilman was born December 19, 1915, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Mortensen) Gilman in Fairmont, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Matthew's Evengelical Lutheran Church in Butterfield, MN, and attended school in Fairmont. On April 6, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ernest Engelking. After their marriage, they made their home in St. James and had eight children. They were later divorced. Margaret worked for many years at Schmidt's Bakery where she had fond memories of the Schmidt family, other bakery employees and customers. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and FLCW. Margaret enjoyed baking, watching sports (especially the Twins and Vikings) and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She took pride in her yard and spent many hours tending to her flowers, ferns, garden, and lawn. Margaret was one of the first residents to move into Brandt Ridge and resided there until October 2010 when she moved to Pleasant View. In her years at Brandt Ridge, she enjoyed attending the Sunday church services, playing Bingo, preparing the silverware and napkins for meals, visiting with the staff, and dining with the residents. Margaret is survived by her children, Jean (Larry) Landsteiner, Bev Miller, Ernie (Judy) Engelking, Sharon Randall, Roger (Mona) Engelking, Roxanne (Warren) Romsdahl, all of St. James, son-in-law Harry Schultz of Comfrey, 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and brother Herb Gilman of Mankato. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Carol Schultz, son Dennis Engelking, granddaughter Rhonda Engelking, four brothers, three sisters and other friends and relatives.
