Marcia Batzlaff

Marcia Batzlaff, age 87, of St. James died on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Friday, June 15, 2012 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating. Burial will be at 2:00pm, at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Sanborn. Visitation will be Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4pm to 8pm and will continue at the church on Friday one hour before services. Marcia Nanette Goehring Batzlaff was born March 5, 1925 to Clarence and Suzanna (Illchen) Goehring at Hazelton, ND. Marcia grew up on the farm with 4 siblings and was an active 4-H member. Marcia graduated from Dr Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN with a teaching degree in 1946. She taught in Wisconsin before accepting a call to Zion Lutheran school in Sanborn, MN. She married Gilbert Batzlaff on February 4, 1949 in Marshall, MN. They farmed near Sanborn and later near Comfrey before moving to St James in 1980. They were blessed with 10 children during their 44 years of marriage; Gilbert passed away in 1993. Marcia was active in her church; Ladies Aid, Sunday school teacher, Quilting, Banner making, and Altar guild. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and handiwork, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to have her grandchildren visit and hear details of their adventures. She loved to laugh. Marcia is survived by her children: Richard (Elaine) Batzlaff.
