Mae Finstad

Mae Finstad, age 89, of Springfield, died on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Vista Ridge in Springfield. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday, February 20, 2012, at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James with Rev. Robert Springer officiating. Burial will be at the Albion Cemetery. Visitation will be 5pm to 7pm, Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and one hour before services at the church on Monday. Mae Metteer was born May 7, 1922, in rural Cottonwood County near Comfrey to parents John and Alma (Belt) Metteer. She grew up on the family farm attending country school. On November 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Oren Finstad. (The couple was 2 months shy of celebrating 70 years together when Oren passed away on September 26, 2009.) The couple farmed together in Brown County, Mulligan Township. Mae loved to play the harmonica in the Second Wind Harmonica Band. She also enjoyed writing and reciting poetry, played piano and organ, loved to paint with water and oils, ceramics and refinishing furniture. Mae enjoyed tending her flower garden, canning, sewing, travelling and fishing. She taught Sunday School, bible study and sang in the church choir. She is survived by her children; Ronald (Caroline) Finstad of St. James, Maxine (Alfred) Muller of Superior, MT, LaDonna (Jerry) Ericksen of Comfrey, six grandchildren; Ava Muller, Theron Finstad, Gina Tank, Troy Finstad, Lance Muller, Jason Ericksen, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters; Myrtle Finstad of New Ulm, Marion Chambers of Mankato, sisters-in-law; Beverly Metteer of Council Bluffs, IA, Myrtle Metteer of Welcome. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oren, parents, brothers; Melvin, Maynard, Milo, sisters; Merna, Mildred, Marvel, Margaret and Marie.
