Mae Dorothy Anderson was born March 13, 1910, the daughter of Peter and Alice (Johnson) Carlson in Comfrey, MN. She graduated from Comfrey High School in 1928, and then attended nurses training at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, graduating in 1931. Mae worked as a private duty nurse as well as at the Comfrey Hospital, Springfield Hospital, and St. John Lutheran Home. On September 12, 1934, she was united in marriage to Elmer Anderson in Comfrey. In 1941, Mae, along with Dr. Gibbons and Mrs. Vivien Gibbons, formed a non-profit corporation which became the first Comfrey Hospital. Mae entered St. John Lutheran Home in 1997. At St. John Lutheran Home, she was devoted to playing the organ for many years at church services and special functions. Mae was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey and enjoyed knitting, making afghans for her grandchildren, playing Scrabble, and organizing the class reunions for Comfrey High School. Mae Dorothy Anderson died Thursday, October 25, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 97 years. Survivors include son- Glen and wife Ramona Anderson of Severn, MD; daughter-in-law- Gwen Anderson of Comfrey; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 3 great,great-grandchildren. Mae is preceded in death by her parents- Peter and Alice (Johnson) Carlson, husband- Elmer in 1993, son- Kelvin in 1996, grandson- Travis in 2000, and great-granddaughter- Catherine in 1993.
