Madalynn Carol Ronning

Madalynn "Mady" Ronning, age 80, formerly of Springfield, Minnesota, died on May 15, 2026, at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm. 

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, Minnesota with a Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Madalynn Carol (Christensen) Ronning died May 15th, 2026 at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm. She was born July 2, 1945 to Victor and Nathalie (Guhlke) Christensen. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1963.

She married James Ronning on June 27th 1964. They settled in Bloomington where they spent the next 49 years together until Jim's passing. She moved to New Ulm in 2015 due to a medical condition and to be closer to family.

She worked for Sears in the HR department for many years and after they closed the Minneapolis location she worked at Lutheran Social services until her retirement in 2010. Mady was very devoted to her jobs and enjoyed helping people especially those less fortunate. Mady loved to garden and take care of her flowers and travel. She volunteered for many organizations in the Twin Cities area including the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, that she and Jim both were involved in. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed planning many of her high school class reunions including their 50th.

Mady enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and you could always find a cup of coffee and some sweet treats waiting if you stopped to visit. She was always willing to help others, including caring for many family members when they were ill. She will be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, sister and aunt.

Mady is survived by her brothers Doug Christensen and Jeff (Doreen) Christensen; nieces Sue (Paul) Matter, Lorel (Jake) Steffl, Emily (Tony) Kuhlers; nephews James Stark (Shelly), Blayne Christensen (Karissa), Danny (Jenna) Christensen, Cole Christensen (Kaylee); great nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Jim Ronning, mother Nathalie Christensen, father Victor Christensen, aunt Marvis Westerberg, mother-in-law Bea Albertsen, sister Virginia Wilkerson and nephew Nathan Nachreiner.
