Mabel Sawatzky

Mabel Worms, the daughter of Jacob J and Maria (Goertzen) Worms was born on August 27, 1918 at Delft, MN. She lived in Mountain Lake, MN most of her life and recieved her education at the Mountain Lake Public School. Mabel was baptized upon confession of her faith on August 5, 1934 at Madrid, NE, and she later became a member of the First Mennoninte Church in Mountain Lake. On January 22, 1938, Mabel was united in marriage to William H. Janzen. They farmed SE of Mountain Lake until 1953, when they moved into Mountain Lake. Bill died on September 12, 1961. Mabel worked in Central Supply at the Bethel Hospital and as a Medication Aide at the Eventide Nursing Home and Good Samaritan Village. On August 9, 1989, Mabel was united in marriage to John J. Sawatzky at the First Mennonite Church. They continued to make their home in Mountain Lake. She was active in her church and Mission Society, volunteered at the Care and Share and at the Senior Center. Mabel also loved music and sang in the Ladies Choir and sextets until the age of 75. She enjoyed gardening and keeping a clean house. Mabel Janzen Sawatzky, 87 ,of Mountain Lake, MN died on Monday, February 13, 2006 at Windom Area Hospital in Windom, MN. Mabel is survived by her husband, John Sawatzky of Mountain Lake; a daughter, Fay and her husband Richard Krause of N. Mankato, MN; a daughter-in-law, Diane (Bentdahl) Janzen of New Salem, WI; six step children, Elsie and her husband Robert Stomberg of Cambridge, MN, Liz and her husband Dallas Schmidt of Minneapolis, MN, Lorena Mierau of Philadelphia, PA, David and his wife Jean Sawatzky of Healy, AK, Gerhardt and his wife Jean Sawatzky of Billings, MT, and Mary Ann and her husband Tim Fredrickson of Michigan City, IN; five grandchildren, Carri Dahl, Kyle Janzen, Dayne Janzen, Stanton Krause and Lana Scanlan; five great grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 22 step great grandchildren; a step great great granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Hilda Worms of Mountain Lake; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Janzen; a son, Harold Janzen in 1988; five sisters, Marie Pankratz, Katrene Sawatzky, Agnes Franz, Anna Falk and Justina Peters; and a brother, John Worms.
